A Note From Michael

For Immediate Release

Topeka, Kan. – Michael J. Snowden announced he would be a candidate for State Representative in the 56th District.

Michael’s top priorities include foster care and education. “I am dedicated to being an effective voice for our district. I've grown up in Topeka, I went to school in Topeka, and I work in Topeka. I am passionate about our community, and I will be your voice in the legislature. It’s time for a change.”

Michael is the Worship Pastor at First Assembly of God Church. Pursuing a call to ministry, he studied at Global University and became a credentialed minister with the General Council of the Assemblies of God in May 2016. He has been on staff in different capacities at the church since January 2014. He has worked extensively as a volunteer in the areas of children's, youth, and small group ministries.

Michael said, “I am passionate about children and youth. One of my greatest concerns is that the Kansas foster care system is not working. On a regular basis, we hear examples where the system failed to look out for the best interests of the child in question. It’s unacceptable to have our children sleeping in office buildings. I will fight for a future where each foster child is cared for and loved, where they don't sleep in office buildings but in warm, safe beds.”

Michael grew up in Topeka attending USD 501 schools including Bishop Elementary, Jardine Middle School and is a graduate of Topeka West High School. “Quality education should be our top priority. I am thankful for my education and will be a voice in the legislature for quality education for our children.”

Active in the Topeka community, Michael serves on the Board of Directors for TDC Learning Centers, serving on several committees including Internal Affairs, External Affairs, and Governance. TDC Learning Centers provide early care and education for children across the Greater Topeka area. He has served as a long time counselor at the Topeka Royal Family Kids Camp, a week long camp for children in the foster care system in partnership with Kids in Need, Inc. Michael is a supporter of the local arts and holds season tickets at Ballet Midwest and the Topeka Symphony.
